Dan Houser, the co-founder of Rockstar Games and a key writer behind Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, Bully, and Max Payne 3, has been working on something new. His studio, Absurd Ventures, has just revealed its first game series, Absurdaverse.
The announcement, made yesterday, gave a glimpse of the game’s world, including a striking logo and a diverse lineup of characters. Among them are a brooding dwarf, a phantom resembling the Grim Reaper, a medieval skeleton, a middle-aged man in a Hawaiian shirt, and what appear to be everyday IT workers—an eclectic mix that certainly lives up to the project’s name.
“Prepare to meet some new kinds of heroes (and watch them suffer),” the studio teased in its post. Alongside the game, Absurd Ventures also has animation projects in the works, with more details expected later this year.
More Than Just a Game
Beyond Absurdaverse, the studio has been busy with other creative projects. Their fictional podcast A Better Paradise is already running, and a crime comic book series titled American Caper is set to launch later this year. With multiple interconnected universes in development, the Absurdaverse game is currently the only confirmed video game project.
When it finally arrives, this will mark Dan Houser’s first game since his departure from Rockstar in 2019. It remains unclear whether this is the same open-world game that surfaced in reports last summer, but fans can expect more updates soon.
